For some reason I feel the need to make an instructive blog that covers all of the formalities. So here you go.

I’m listening to The National. I just ate some cheese and crackers. I’m wearing my Indian pants and favorite headband. The regular suspicious bruises keep appearing on my arms. I wrote in my journal earlier before I checked my notifications on facebook. And I keep thinking about re-painting my fingernails but still haven’t done that. My typical life continues. Except I’ve returned to the promise land.

For those of you who don’t know (but I hope you know this much about me if you’re reading my blog), I graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in December. I moved into an intentional living community while spending the past four months working, saving, and praying for this new adventure. Yesterday I woke up at three in the morning to begin traveling and to begin something that I’ve dreamt about my whole life. I’ll be here in Guatemala City for approximately a year. I’ll working, playing, and loving on some adorable kids from the slum of La Limonada. I’m proud to say that I’m going through a ‘grass-roots’ and organic non-profit called Lemonade International.

My purpose here is to eat mangos, live in community, practice the fruit of the Spirit, perfect my Spanish, and lay on a hammock for hours. In my free time I’ll be the Guatemalan director of our Child Sponsorship program. Basically I’ll be creating communication between the sponsors in America (or Guatemala) and the children at the schools.

It’s just so surreal to travel and find friends that become family. I consider it such an honor to be here with Tita and Monika - two of the most amazing women I’ve met since I met my mom 21 years ago. Being surrounded by them, the other workers here, and all of the teachers at the school is just so inspiring. I feel like we can just do anything.
